Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
